Being Rich - An Interaction with a Monk

 Being Rich

An Interaction with a Monk

A Youngman asked a monk, "what should I do to become rich?"

The Old Monk asked, "What do you mean by becoming rich?"

The Youngman said, "I want to earn more money and possess more wealth."

The monk smiled and said, "you have come to the wrong place, you should have gone to a financial consultant."

The Youngman asked, "Is there not a means of becoming rich through your teachings?"

The monk said, "We don't teach, we question; through your answers, you either learn, relearn or unlearn."

The Youngman smiled and said, "you are right."

The monk said, now let me help you understand what is being rich.

A man who walks on the road is rich and, the man who travels in a luxury car is also rich; it depends upon how they define it.

Some are rich in knowledge, whereas some are rich in values.

Some are rich in mind, whereas some are rich in heart.

The Youngman stops the monk and asks, "What is the difference between rich in mind and rich at heart?"

The monk replies" those who are rich in the mind are rich in ideas and those who are rich at heart, are rich at sharing what they have."

The Youngman nodded his head.

The Monk said: the word rich is relative and is not only curtailed to money and wealth.

There are many wealthy people with poor health, lack of values etc.

Monk said, these are my concluding remarks.

If you learn, you will earn

If you unlearn, you will earn

If you relearn, you will earn

Keep enriching yourself to become rich in both mind and heart.

The Youngman with a smile said, "I am enriched, henceforth, I will never restrict the word rich with wealth and money."

The Modes of Persuasion The modes of persuasion, often referred to as ethical strategies or rhetorical appeals, are devices in rhetoric that classify the speaker's appeal to the audience. They are: ethos, pathos, logos, and the less-used Kairos & telos The above model has been used by Advertisement agencies to grab the attention of the viewers and finally bring them to the purchase desk or use the cart in shopping sites. If we carefully examine the model, it has a sound application in running an effective training program too.
