Parable of Coffee

 Parable of Coffee

Coffee is a favourite beverage for many people on this planet. Some prefer it black; some like it strong; some like it light; some enjoy it without sugar; some with less sugar, and some with medium sugar. The word coffee is synonymous with refreshing and aromatic. Now let us understand how coffee goes wrong.

1.  Sour milk, good decoction, the correct quantity of sugar served at the right temperature.

2.  Good milk, bad decoction, and the proper amount of sugar served at the right temperature.

3.  Good milk, good decoction, the wrong amount of sugar served at the right temperature.

4.  Good milk, good decoction, and the correct quantity of sugar served either too hot or cold.

5.  When Plain coffee is not made as per the needs.

Coffee lovers are very particular about the taste, aroma, blend, and temperature in which it is served; by either smelling or tasting a sip, they will decide whether they can have the coffee. You might be wondering where the write-up is heading. Now let us build a parable based on coffee and the workplace.

Coffee- is the company.

Milk is the company’s vision, mission, strategies, goals, and plans

The decoction is dedicated employees

Sugar is the motivation

Temperature is the work climate

Now let us draw some parallels.

If the company does not have a proper vision and plans but has dedicated employees, the company will still not do well despite having a motivated employee and a suitable climate.

If the company does not have a dedicated employee, despite all other factors being right, it will still run for its survival.

If the company does not use suitable motivation methods despite other factors being right, but still at one point, they will lose their employees.

If the climate is not conducive, we cannot stay in any place for a long time; similarly, if the climate within the organization is not conducive, employees will not stay.

Good coffee is a blend of all the right ingredients, and an effective organization thrives with the right vision, mission, strategies, plans, dedicated employees, and a conducive climate.

Take a cup of coffee in your hand, analyze your organization to find the missing components, and act upon them.

Sometimes coffee breaks can help you to come up with breakthrough ideas to strengthen your organization.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
