Sales -Is it a Nightmare - Part-4-Need for Sales Training

In the previous article, we discussed the need to have a Sales Methodology, in this article let us focus on understanding the need to have a Sales Training which will help the customers to experience a Professional Salesperson. Before we get into the need for having a sales Training, let us reflect upon the following quote:

The only thing worse than training employees and losing them is not to train them and keep them- Zig Zaglar

What is Sales Training?

Is the process of improving selling skills, knowledge, and attributes to drive salesmanship and increase sales ethically by delighting the customer?

Why Sales Training?

As a nation, we have courses for many careers, but sales are neither seen as a career nor there are dedicated courses on sales, hence it becomes imperative for the organisation to develop structured sales training with the help of the industry experts.

How to determine the sales training needs?

·         As an organisation you should define the behaviour, skills and knowledge required for selling your products/ services.

·         Measure the competency of the existing sales team based on the above parameters. In the event of hiring new employees, the same should be driven in your induction.

·         You can also study the customers' opinion about the sales team at regular intervals to develop training programs

What are the benefits of conducting sales training?

·         A structured sales training will help in understanding the competency of the sales team.

·         It reinforces the competency required in selling effectively

·         It avoids overselling, miss-selling and underselling

·         It brings uniformity in sales approach which will be perceived as professionalism

There are many more customised benefits you can reap.

For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
