                                                                    Why Critical Thinking?

In recent past we would have come across many forwards in social media one such forward was Indian National Anthem declared as the best National Anthem by UNESCO.

After reading this some were overjoyed, some felt proud, some were neutral and few of them were critical
about it.

Now let’s examine this forward

• Do UNESCO compare national Anthem?
• When was this done?
• Did this appear in mainstream media?
• Is it logical to compare Anthems of different languages to infer which is the best?

Why do people react to such forwards and why do they blindly forward it, without authenticating it? the answer is- Lack of Critical thinking skills

Decision making and problem-solving demands both logical and emotional thinking, due to inability
to apply critical thinking people start using emotions to take decisions or solve problems, in certain situations, we do need to use our emotions but we should also blend it both critical thinking skills.

In the world of photoshop, animations, CGs etc. where anything can be recreated, distorted or changed it’s time to use critical thinking before forwarding messages.

Critical thinkers might sound harsh but do remember they are also rational in their approach. In the
past it is the critical thinkers who pulled down czars, colonial laws, ended fascism, educated people on ill effects of superstitious belief and many undemocratic activities.

Today there are one set of people who blindly practise the rituals of the past and they are neither ableto appreciate nor reason out the logic behind what they are practising. but on the other hand, there are one set of people who use their critical thinking skills to understand the reason behind what they are practising hence they are able to appreciate and reason it out.

Once we are convinced both logically and emotionally our ability to influence people becomes easier and we can also appreciate people thoroughly for their contribution because we had the
ability to understand the reason in different perspectives.

Encourage critical thinkers, they do have an alternative perspective

The Modes of Persuasion The modes of persuasion, often referred to as ethical strategies or rhetorical appeals, are devices in rhetoric that classify the speaker's appeal to the audience. They are: ethos, pathos, logos, and the less-used Kairos & telos The above model has been used by Advertisement agencies to grab the attention of the viewers and finally bring them to the purchase desk or use the cart in shopping sites. If we carefully examine the model, it has a sound application in running an effective training program too.
