Leadership Lesson-An insight from an Interaction with an Auto driver

Chennai-a vibrant city blended with tradition and technology. We can see people from various parts of the nation who build their career here. Though Chennai is famous for many reasons but auto users in Chennai have few sad stories to share.
By making the above statement I don't to want brand the auto drivers of Chennai as customer unfriendly. We do have Auto Anna durai who is a case study on customer care and a sought out Ted speaker.
Before few years I was waiting to board an auto and I came across an Auto driver who should have been in mid 30s, normally in Chennai Auto drivers don't use the meter and hence we need to bargain, since I didn't have an option I started bargaining, the auto driver said the following:
"Sir by paying 20 Rupees more, neither you need to sell your house in Anna Nagar nor by charging 20 Rupees more I will buy a house in T.Nagar." after listening to him I decided not to bargain and got into to the Auto.
During the ride I told the Auto driver " I liked your approach" the Auto driver did not take it
seriously but he said "there are lot of people who are corrupt and earn thousands of crores, but people like you don't question them, but instead you keep talking rules to us. I didn't react to what he said but I was thinking about it for a while. He said "if the people at top level keep earning thousands of crores which is beyond their capacity and need, we should also be like them" I didn't want to argue with him because I felt he was talking out of frustration. After completing my ride, I had the following insights If Leadership is not value driven, the bottom in the pyramid will also display the same, in fact the bottom has more numbers and hence organization will land up producing More people without values.
If Leadership is greedy the same behaviour will be displayed in the bottom, hence greed will overtake the need and will result in dissatisfied work force.
If Leadership is engaged in unethical and unlawful activities, the people in the bottom will quote that as an example and we can witness more such activities in the bottom of the pyramid.
At the top of the pyramid, though the numbers are less, but it impacts the entire ecosystem.
If the Leadership is governed by values and ethics the entire system will be free from chaos and crimes.
We did witness Late Mr. Kamaraj a political Leader from Tamil Nadu and Late Mr. Lee Kuan yew father of Singapore in this world who were known for their values and inspired people in all walks of life.

We do have a choice to either follow the people without values or Leaders with values.

Let's be a responsible Person to be an inspiring Leader

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
