Our Experiment with sound

Our Experiment with sound
During my childhood days, my sister bought a mono Tape recorder when she visited Ceylon on a school tour. This tape recorder was the major source of entertainment with only a few cassettes in the hand. We used to save money to buy cassettes & we were very selective about choosing the songs.

Since it was a mono player, we couldn’t enjoy the best of music like Boney-M, Abba, Osibisa etc. We knew that there is an Audio out which can help us to connect to external speakers but in those days, we didn’t have money to buy such speakers. We had an old Murphy Radio; which we stopped using after we bought a small radio. Our desire to constantly improve the sound, helped us to identify a solution and we succeeded in connecting the mono player to radio speakers, and it gave us the desired result.
We were able to continue with the radio as an output device and we did listen to our favourite songs. However, our fun did not last because our radio was old and it stopped working. After some time we also bought a black and white Television and our entertainment shifted towards TV Programs.
In those days, TV programs started only after 6 P.M and we did not have much to do in the day time during our vacation and hence our mono was the saviour. After enjoying the music by connecting to radio speakers, we did not like the mono sound.
Our hunt for improving the sound did not stop, once when we were cleaning the TV, we found an audio-in and we quickly used our learning from connecting to the radio and immediately moved our Mono player next to the TV and we got back what we desired. This continued for years and Black and white TV was replaced with Colour TV, Mono was replaced into the audio set.

A desire to enjoy the good music helped us to understand the gadgets and it’s functioning. The power of childhood is curiosity and we did live our life with curiosity. But as & when we age, we are slowly losing our best childhood qualities, let’s relook into our childhood to bring back those wonderful qualities to add more zing to our present life.

If necessity is the mother of all inventions, curiosity is the father of all inventions

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
