Sales Insight from a Vegetable Vendor

Sales Insight from a Vegetable Vendor

I was waiting for my turn to draw money from an ATM; it was the beginning of the month, so there was a queue. While waiting, I saw a young vegetable vendor selling a small quantity of vegetables packed in carry bags, and many ladies stood for their turn to buy their choice of vegetables.

These are some of the facts I witnessed while in the queue.

The selection of day: Since it was the beginning of the month, people had cash to dispense, and the young vegetable vendor was right in choosing the right day to sell.

Insight-1- In sales, timing matters; we should be aware of our customers' profiles, their flow of income, what they will buy and when they will buy.

The selection of Place- The young vegetable vendor selected a place near the ATM, which was also closer to a nearby export garment unit. He understood his target audience would draw their salary from the nearby ATM, and they would find it easy to shop from him, who was on their doorstep.

Insight-2- In sales, place matters; we should know where our customers hang around and what they want to buy at their doorstep.

Season Matters- Since Puratasi* month is auspicious, and there was demand for specific vegetables, the young vegetable vendor was mindful of the vegetables he sold.

Insight-3- In sales, we should be aware of the culture and the tradition to know what and when we should sell.

Quantity matters- The young man was aware of his customers' purchase power and, hence, packed it in small carry bags, which were pocket-friendly and easy to carry.

Insight-4-In: In sales, we should know our customers' purchase power, quantity preference, and package preference; this will help us source the correct quantity and pack it at the customer's convenience.

In nutshell

·      Timing matters

·      Season matters.

·      Product matters

·      Quantity matters

·      Place matters

Market and customers should be studied regularly to meet the requirements effectively.

*Puratasi Masam is of great importance as it is believed that Lord Venkateswara Lord Vishnu devotees consider this the ideal month to thank Lord Vishnu for preserving the Universe at the end of Kali Yuga.

All the Saturdays of this month are treated as holy days, and Devotees gather in large numbers at Lord Vishnu temples, and special prayers are offered. A pooja is done on Saturdays, and various vegetables are cooked and served.

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.   L&D Global Chennai Chapter was instrumental in bringing Jaby closer to my heart, our journey was not too long, but it was filled with fun, humour, joy and learning too. When Jaby was present, dullness was absent. He filled the hall with his sense of humour, and his thoughts were deep-rooted in bringing the best out of every human. Jaby was the most admired person in any forum; when Jaby picked the mic, the audience pulled themselves to the edge of the chair. Jaby was casual in his appearance, but he was a thorough professional everywhere. During COVID, if there was one person whom I counted on to help people, it was Jaby; his car was filled with masks, sanitizer and an oxygen concentrator. His social bent of mind made him a good Samaritan. Jaby was a curious child, whenever we both met, he was curious to improve his skills and knowledge, and his quest for development was limitless. Jaby and I collaborated in the year ...
