The Ant and the Elephant

The Ant and the Elephant

A small ant was biting an elephant near the ears; the elephant said, "You little Ant, you are too small; if I swing my ears, you will fall dead.

The Ant said, "My dear huge elephant, you are right; I know I will fall dead, but before you swing your ears, listen to my words of wisdom."

The elephant, with a smile, said, "Go ahead."

The Ant said,

Size doesn't matter; it is the competency.

Longevity doesn't matter; what we can do in our short span of life matters.

It is not the problem's size that matters; how you handle it matters.

The elephant said, "You are small by size but large with wisdom."

The Ant smiled, "It is your turn; go ahead and swing your ears."

The elephant slowly kneeled and said, "You can climb down and walk peacefully."

The Ant stood opposite the elephant and bowed by saying, "Thank you for sparing my life."

The elephant said, "I should bow in front of you for your wisdom."

While the Ant was moving forward, a speeding truck approached the Ant and applied a sudden brake. Seeing the elephant

The elephant told the Ant, "Now you can cross the road."

The Ant moved swiftly towards the jungle.

In life, we will encounter people like ants, who will be wise, and people like elephants, who will be nice; let us learn from everyone around us.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
