Deepavali - A festival that rekindles our childhood memories

Part-3-Our Innovative Bomb Rocket

The Next day, while we were coming from the school, we bought a train cracker, which was different from other crackers, this cracker has provision to insert thread, which can be tied from one end to the other end.  Once the cracker is burnt, it will move forward and backward.

Though we know the principle of the train cracker, but our idea was different, we removed the train portion and took the raw cracker to convert it into our innovative rocket, but this time we wanted to see a rocket which goes up and also comes down in the same speed. We were so excited to see our innovation progressing in many ways, we quickly made our rocket. We launched it with excitement and our rocket did take off, but instead of flying, it moved sideward and it went down above the head of a lady who was washing vessels, out of fear she moved backwards & our so-called rocket also moved backwards towards the lady, we were worried about what Was happening.

The lady looked above and started yelling at us, one of my tenants who was a retired engineer took the rocket and was examining it for a while and he asked us what we were doing, we went down to explain our experiment and the elders around were shouting at us and few of them were also laughing while we explained.

After this incident, we decided not to use train as a rocket but our snakes continued to be our low-cost rockets for few years.

Deepavali was not only fun, it was innovative too, whenever I conduct a workshop on creativity and innovation, I tell the participants to connect with their childhood and bring back those qualities once again in the adulthood to find new ways of doing things

Where there is fun there is innovation

Keep launching yourself with new ideas to reach new heights in your life

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
