Think twice before you Choose

An old monk was addressing a group of people on self-development, during his lecture he asked, “how many of you want money?” Most of the people in the hall raised their hands and he asked, “how many of you want advice”? Few people in the hall raised their hands.

The old monk placed a box on one side of the table and another box on the other side. The old monk said the box on to my left is full of money and the box on to my right is advice. Those who prefer the money can come first and take it from the box, by the time he completed the statement the people rushed and grabbed what was in the box, some of them had more money, some had little or no money.

The few people who opted for advice were waiting for the old monk to give the instruction, the old monk said “Those who opted for the money stand to my left and told the people who opted for the advice to open the box and take whatever is there” people walked towards the box and one person opened the box and others took one cover each from the box.

The old monk told to open the cover and read the advice

The first person reads: When you are given a chance between a fish and a fishing rod, opt for the fishing rod and not the fish. A fish will satisfy your hunger for the day whereas fishing rod will take care of your life.

The old monk looked at the people who opted the money and said you have the fishes but not the fishing rod.

The second person reads: Never win at the cost of others

The old monk asked “how many of you could not take any money from the box” few of them raised their hands. The old monk said true winner is a person who thinks win-win and does not win at the cost of others

The third person reads: Work and take what you deserve

The old monk said “Anything that comes to you without your effort doesn’t belong to you, the money in hand is an example

The fourth person reads: Do not run a rat race

The old monk said “Do not run a rat race, there are unexplored tracks out there” when you all ran for the money, you people did not see the third box which was underneath the money box” The old monk walked towards the box and  opened it to show some precious stones.

The old monk said, “since we all run in the same direction, we don’t explore the unexplored and get into the whirlwind of competition”

The old monk called those people who read the message and told one of them to remove a cloth which was on the surface of the advice box, for their surprise they noticed some money beneath the cloth.

The old monk said: “when you use the right advises in life you can get the rewards you deserve”

Those who took the money slowly walked towards the box to drop the money they picked.

The old monk smiled, & said Realization is a first step towards development”

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.   L&D Global Chennai Chapter was instrumental in bringing Jaby closer to my heart, our journey was not too long, but it was filled with fun, humour, joy and learning too. When Jaby was present, dullness was absent. He filled the hall with his sense of humour, and his thoughts were deep-rooted in bringing the best out of every human. Jaby was the most admired person in any forum; when Jaby picked the mic, the audience pulled themselves to the edge of the chair. Jaby was casual in his appearance, but he was a thorough professional everywhere. During COVID, if there was one person whom I counted on to help people, it was Jaby; his car was filled with masks, sanitizer and an oxygen concentrator. His social bent of mind made him a good Samaritan. Jaby was a curious child, whenever we both met, he was curious to improve his skills and knowledge, and his quest for development was limitless. Jaby and I collaborated in the year ...
