Talent- is it Good or Bad?

The word talent is associated with Intelligence, Smartness, success etc. Let us examine this word in another dimension, talent can also be associated with Crime, fraudulent activities, terrorism etc. The answer is- "yes".

Some of us might be perplexed while reading the above claim, now let us see the following example to understand why talent need not be seen as a positive word.

In the cyber world, there are different kinds of hackers, however for simplifying the discussion, let us understand the following kind, of talented hackers:

There are White Hat Hackers who are hired to hack the system from the loopholes in the cybersecurity of the organization and ensure safety.

There are Black Hat Hackers who hack into organizations’ networks and steal bank data, funds or sensitive information. Normally, they use the stolen resources to profit themselves, sell them on the black market or harass their target company.

If we closely examine both hackers possess similar talent, but how they apply their talent differs. These kinds of people are there in every field it doesn't matter whether they are educated or not.

While developing talent, we should also develop character because it is the character that governs one's actions.

While hiring a person do not get carried away by the talent, do understand the person's character too. It is okay to hire a less talented person rather than hiring the wrong character.

As a parent, do not get awed by your children's talent, equally focus on their character too. The Black Hat Hackers developed their talent at a young age, but since their parents did not pay attention to their character, the world has witnessed cyberattacks on many organisations.

With talent, a piece of iron can become art, and, with the same talent, it can also become a weapon that can be sold illegally to criminals, it depends upon how the talent is used.

Talent is important, but talent with character is very important for the welfare of the world.

Admire talent, but critically evaluate the character too.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
