You Are More Precious Than Any Jewel A Lesson in Self-Worth

You Are More Precious Than Any Jewel

A Lesson in Self-Worth

Think about how people treat expensive jewellery. They wear it carefully. They remove it carefully. They place it gently back into its box. They lock it in a safe, protected by a password known only to themselves.

Why? Because they value more than just the object. They value the hardship behind the earnings that made it possible. Or they value the gift of the person who gave it on a special occasion.

Every movement is deliberate. Every precaution is taken. The jewellery is handled like the precious thing it is.

Now, Let Us Turn the Mirror Inward

We are more valuable than any jewellery. In fact, all the gold and diamonds in the world cannot equal the worth of a single human life.

So, what if we treated ourselves with the same care?

Let us stretch the analogy:

Ø  Wearing the jewellery is like choosing what we feed our bodies and what thoughts we allow into our minds. Just as we adorn ourselves with precious ornaments, we should adorn ourselves with nutritious food and uplifting ideas.

Ø  Removing the jewellery is like ending each day. Do we remove the weight of the day with peace? Do we rest with a sense of accomplishment, however small? Or do we carry stress into our sleep?

Ø  Placing the jewellery in the box is like protecting ourselves from toxic influences—unwanted infections, negative emotions, draining relationships. We must create a safe space for ourselves, mentally and emotionally.

Ø  Locking it in the safe is like guarding our inner peace from external disturbances. And the password? That is the boundary we set. The conscious decision to let no one mess with our minds unless we choose to let them in.

The True Measure of Value

Just as people value jewellery for the effort behind its purchase, we must value ourselves for the time and effort we have invested in staying mentally and physically fit.

Every workout. Every healthy meal. Every difficult emotion we processed. Every boundary we set. Every night we chose rest over chaos. All of it adds to our worth.

A Deeper Truth: We Are Gifts

And here is the most beautiful part.

Some jewellery is gifted. It carries the love of the giver. In the same way, every one of us is a symbol of love. We were gifted our lives by those who brought us into this world.

Think of what it costs them. The fear. The pain of delivery. The uncertainty of the future. Despite all of it, nothing stopped them from giving us the gift of life.

That alone makes us precious beyond measure.

The Question to Carry

So, ask yourself:

If I handle a piece of jewellery with such care, do I handle myself with the same respect?

Value yourself not for what you own, but for who you are. For the journey you have walked. For the love that gave your life. For the effort you put into becoming better each day.

You are not just valuable. You are invaluable.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
