The liberating Gift of Nothing
The
feeling of being nothing is the beginning of realising we know nothing. The
moment we truly grasp that we know nothing, the inner listener and learner
become more active, while the inner judge and our biases take a back seat.
Remember, this state of humble emptiness is the starting point for knowing more
than we ever thought possible. We should never hesitate to say, “I don’t know.”
That admission is a reflection of wisdom, which is far superior to the
knowledge we merely possess. Knowledge is like a cup of tea—finite and
contained. Wisdom is like the boundless tea plantation—limitless and alive.
Quotes that deepen this theme:
·
From Socrates: “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know
nothing.” This is the very foundation of honest inquiry and
growth.
·
From Jiddu
Krishnamurti: “The
ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence.” This
relates to allowing the "listener" to act without the immediate
judgment of the "judge."
·
From Taoist
wisdom (in the spirit of the Tao
Te Ching): “The usefulness of a pot comes from its
emptiness.” This beautifully mirrors the idea that our value
and capacity to learn come from our open, humble state of ‘not-knowing.’
