Routine vs fun - Choose both
There is one set of people who believe fun should not come at
the cost of routine, and there is another set who believe it is okay to
compromise routine for the sake of fun. Both might sound right in their own
ways. Those who follow routine—like exercise, personal hygiene, and eating on
time—are very particular that these habits should never be compromised. They
firmly believe that routine is the bedrock on which life is built, and shaking
it will shake their entire life.
On the other hand, those who focus on fun believe that life
cannot be serious and driven by routine. They feel it is okay to skip the gym,
miss a bath, or forgo breakfast. They firmly believe: no fun, no life.
However, I have witnessed both extremes in my life and in the
lives of others. Whenever I prioritised fun over routine, it came with a
cost—hangovers, loss of self-control, and various physical ailments, all
leading to regret later.
Whenever I gave more importance to routine, I sometimes felt I
was becoming monotonous, losing out on networking with people, and experiencing
loneliness.
When my mind went through both situations, I started searching
for a middle ground. I began defining what fun and routine mean in my life and
their importance, the time I need to spend on both, and I also understood the
consequences of both extremes. I made up my mind to define a middle path, which
restored my mind and body.
Ask yourself: What is your definition of fun
and routine? Find a middle path, and start enjoying your life based on it.
