Unit-12

Bosses are interested in listening to flattering comments, whereas a Leaders are committed in taking feedback

Let’s understand the context behind which the above difference has been derived. When I say “Bosses are interested in listening to flattering comments ” I mean they  would like to be praised/Appreciated/celebrated, whereas when I say “Leaders are committed in taking feedback” I mean Leaders are engaged in improving themselves and creating a culture which is  open for development.

If organisation have bosses who would live in vanity & pride such organisations will struggle to progress.

A Leader lives on the principle of continuous development and hence knows the value of feedback.

An organisation which has the culture of receiving feedback coming from the bottom will have a strong foundation on which large dreams can be built, whereas an organisation which does not have a feedback from bottom to up, will live in darkness and will have no clue in terms of what should the managers do to improve themselves.

A Leader neither believes in Personal victories nor past glories, he is on a mission towards the organisation vision and personal development.

Subordinates prefer an open culture where they would like to give a feedback, but unfortunately, when the boss is sedated with self-glory, they lose their interest in ideating and discussing development plans for the organisation.

If employees are expected to appease their bosses, they will lose their self-esteem & will turn blind towards organisation’s welfare, whereas if subordinates are given opportunity to give feedback, they are inspired to seek feedback for their improvements too.

Ask yourself the following questions

1.   Do you have subordinates who keep appreciating you more?

2.  What do you seek more- Attention or feedback?

3.  Are your subordinates open to give you feedback?

4.  Do you keep highlighting your achievements to your higher ups

5.   Do you process the feedback given to you by your subordinates?

6.  do you know what your subordinates feel about you?

By answering the above question, you can understand whether there is a boss who is looking for appreciation or there is a Leader who is looking for improvements.

We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.

The Modes of Persuasion The modes of persuasion, often referred to as ethical strategies or rhetorical appeals, are devices in rhetoric that classify the speaker's appeal to the audience. They are: ethos, pathos, logos, and the less-used Kairos & telos The above model has been used by Advertisement agencies to grab the attention of the viewers and finally bring them to the purchase desk or use the cart in shopping sites. If we carefully examine the model, it has a sound application in running an effective training program too.
