Unit-18

Bosses lives with Power, whereas Leaders lives by an example

Let’s understand the context behind which the above difference has been derived. When I say “Bosses Lives with Power” I mean they use Power as the source to manage the people whereas when I say “Leaders lives by an example” I mean they  travel the path to show the way & they can get down & dirty their hands too.

When Power is being used on subordinate, they feel compressed and they don’t feel like giving their best, whereas Leader lives by example  & hence the subordinates are inspired to do their best.

An organisation where there is usage of power it disempowers the employees to act on their will, whereas if an organisation has Leaders who are living examples, they breed more Leaders at the bottom.

Bosses use Power as a force in developing obedient subordinates, whereas, Leaders are convinced that power corrupts and hence they become examples in leading from the front.

Bosses do realise that position is earned, but using the power in their position is an option, whereas Leaders neither take credit for their position nor use power in their position, they live with the prime objective of being a bridge between the organisation vision & inspiring their team to work towards the vision.

Power is a double-edged sword and it requires Wise men to handle it, an organisation should think twice before giving positions for people who are power oriented.

An organisation is a brand to its employees first and customers next, it is the Leader who realises this and makes sure the brand lives it’s promises by inspiring them with a phrase - “Walk the talk”

Ask yourself the following questions

1.   Are you dependent on your power to handle people?
2.   Do you expect your subordinates to act on your words?
3.   Do your subordinates look upon you for your instructions?
4.   Do you show them how to do a job?
5.   Do you see position as a source of power?
6.   Do your subordinates initiate and keep you informed?

By answering the above questions, you can understand whether there is a boss who lives with power or there is Leader who lives by example to Empower other

Leaders become Great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to Empower others

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
