Control, Alt, Delete: The Shortcut to a Fresh Start

Control, Alt, Delete: The Shortcut to a Fresh Start

We’ve all been there. You’re working on your laptop or desktop when suddenly, it slows down. An error message pops up. The cursor freezes. You try to type, but nothing happens. Sound familiar?

In those frustrating moments, your fingers instinctively reach for Control + Alt + Delete. You close the unresponsive window, or if things are really stuck, you restart the entire system.

Then comes the next familiar scene: after rebooting, you see a message like, “Previous file was not closed properly.” You sigh, click OK, and get back to work.

But here’s the interesting part—life works the same way. We, too, have moments when we slow down, go blank, or feel stuck. Stress, repetitive thoughts, or toxic people can freeze our progress, just like a glitchy system freezes a screen.

That’s when we need our own Control, Alt, Delete:

· Control the thoughts that slow you down.

· Alternate your perspective—try a new approach or idea.

· Delete the people or habits that keep you from functioning effectively.

Just like a restart gives your computer a clean slate, a mental reboot prepares you to face reality with fresh thinking and renewed energy. So next time life freezes, don’t panic. Press your inner shortcut. Restart. And get ready to move forward again.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
