Lead like a Pencil Box, Not a Carpenter’s Kit
Think of a relationship toolkit like
a pencil box. Inside, you have pencils to write down lessons from each other’s
experiences. An eraser—to correct mistakes without criticising. And a
sharpener—to keep the relationship sharp, fresh, and growing.
Now imagine if that toolkit were a
carpenter’s box instead. You’d find nails and hammers. Useful for building
furniture, but not for building relationships. In a relationship, that approach
only leads to being "nailed" and "hammered"—rigid, painful,
and full of force.
A person with a boss mentality
carries a mindset like a carpenter’s toolkit—focused on control, force, and
blunt fixes. But a true leader carries a mind like a pencil box.
They see themselves as an eternal
student of life, someone who knows that the art of leading others is never
fully mastered. It’s always being learned, erased, corrected, and sharpened.
