Cherish the Change or Perish

Cherish the Change or Perish

What was once considered the latest technology can quickly become obsolete in today’s fast-paced world. For instance, an entire generation has experienced the rise and fall of cassette tapes and film rolls. Today, these items are often found in museums or are lovingly preserved by enthusiasts who want to remember those nostalgic times. These products were not just random inventions; they were the result of the work of innovative leaders who dominated their respective industries at the time.

Some companies have successfully adapted to the rapidly changing technological landscape and continue leading innovations. Take 3M as a prime example. This company once produced floppy disks and overhead projectors—technologies that have long since been phased out of everyday use. Despite this, 3M has become a market leader in various other sectors, particularly in manufacturing consumable products.

The question arises: How can organizations like 3M and other forward-thinking companies achieve sustainable success? While the answer may seem straightforward, executing it can be challenging. Here are some key strategies:

1. Embrace Mistakes: Acknowledge that errors are part of innovation. Learning from failures can lead to breakthroughs and improvements.

2. Innovate Continuously: Regularly seek new ideas and approaches. Organizations must foster a culture of creativity and encourage employees to think outside the box.

3. Utilize Historical Data: Analyze past trends to gain insights into changing consumer needs and preferences. Understanding history can provide valuable knowledge for foreseeing future developments.

4. Monitor Industry Leaders: Watch successful companies' strategies. Learning from them can help identify best practices and inspire new initiatives.

5. Stay Grounded in Reality: Stay connected with current market conditions and customer feedback. Being in touch with industry realities enables organisations to pivot effectively when needed.

In conclusion, while change is an inevitable aspect of business and technology, the organisation has the choice to embrace it and navigate it. Companies can position themselves for long-term success with a proactive approach to innovation and a willingness to adapt.

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.

Being Jaby is being a fine human being.   L&D Global Chennai Chapter was instrumental in bringing Jaby closer to my heart, our journey was not too long, but it was filled with fun, humour, joy and learning too. When Jaby was present, dullness was absent. He filled the hall with his sense of humour, and his thoughts were deep-rooted in bringing the best out of every human. Jaby was the most admired person in any forum; when Jaby picked the mic, the audience pulled themselves to the edge of the chair. Jaby was casual in his appearance, but he was a thorough professional everywhere. During COVID, if there was one person whom I counted on to help people, it was Jaby; his car was filled with masks, sanitizer and an oxygen concentrator. His social bent of mind made him a good Samaritan. Jaby was a curious child, whenever we both met, he was curious to improve his skills and knowledge, and his quest for development was limitless. Jaby and I collaborated in the year ...
