We Are Built or Broken by Time, Not Cash
When
we think about the word "investment," two other words often come to
mind: money and time. When we invest money, the first thing we do isn’t transfer funds—we invest time in addressing the 5 Ws and 2 Hs: Who
should be the right person to contact? What information should we gather? When
should we invest? Where should we invest? Why should we invest? And how, and
how much, should we invest?
By paying attention to these 5
Ws and 2 Hs, we realise that before money ever leaves our hands, it’s our time
and energy that go in first. Unfortunately, however, some people invest blindly
and end up losing blatantly. The root cause is often a failure to invest
quality time in understanding how to protect and grow our money.
While reading the above two
paragraphs, you’ve already invested some time in improving your knowledge about
what to do before investing.
We are either built or broken by
the decisions we make in life, and every decision involves our time. Some
people invest considerable time before making any major decision, so they don’t
waste time later on regret or guilt.
Whether it’s a physical, mental,
or relationship-building exercise, the very first resource we deploy is our
time.
When we don’t invest our time
wisely now, we waste even more time trying to fix things later. When
we see time as a resource that will never come back, we stop spending it on
activities that make no sense in our lives. Instead, we start viewing it as an
investment—and that makes us more cautious and wise.
The wisest decision you’ve made
in the past 3–4 minutes is investing your time in learning how to use time as a
resource.
