A Tale of Two Organs
The Heart looked dull. The Brain approached it and
asked, “You look dull. What happened?”
The Heart replied, “The person who owns us is so weak
in the face of failure and criticism. Every time he faces failure or criticism,
he takes it to heart and worries so much that nothing is left of him afterwards.
This behaviour of his burdens me.”
The Brain replied, “The same person becomes another
man when he succeeds. Whenever he succeeds or is praised, he lets it go to his
head and slowly behaves as if he is the best in the world. I see him praising
himself all the time; his ego is growing day by day.”
The Heart asked, “Why do people behave like this?”
The Brain said, “They don’t understand your
importance, and they don’t use me wisely. If they realised this and gave credit
to the people who were instrumental to their success, they would not burden me.
If they realised that failure is not final and that they can still recover,
they would not burden you.”
After a few days, the Brain let the person face the
consequences of his vanity and pride, so he could taste failure and his ego
could be reduced. Meanwhile, the Heart sought the Brain’s help to ensure the
person did not see failure as a failure, but as a learning experience.
After a few months, the person realised his mistakes
and became humble. Having learnt from failure, he began to attract more success
and taste it again.
The world has witnessed people who do not worry about
success and failure. They simply keep giving their best and never stop
learning. These are the people who use their minds wisely and care for their
hearts. They use their minds wisely and guard their hearts carefully. Success
doesn't inflate them, and failure doesn't crush them.
