Stop Proving Yourself, Start Improving Yourself
Sometimes we may have said, or heard others say, “A day will come when I prove who I am.” Such phrases sound like movie dialogue, and they create a sense of challenge—to prove ourselves to others. Let's detach ourselves emotionally from the need to prove ourselves. None of us needs to prove who we are to the world. All we need to do is keep improving ourselves based on our needs, not based on proving something to others.
In today’s world, many people
get trapped in the web of proving themselves to the world. This can indirectly
push us into debt and shift our focus from quality of life to standard of
living. That shift contributes to dissatisfaction and stress.
Ask yourself: Why should you
prove yourself to the world? Do you think the world is waiting to honour you?
Do you think people will remember you once you are gone?
Never get into a game that is
designed for you to lose. Proving yourself is an endless game: from millions to
billions, from a two-bedroom apartment to a beach house, from a trip to
Yelagiri Hills to a trip to the Alps—the list is endless.
Instead, learn the art of
improving yourself based on your needs. Then you will never get caught in the
game of comparison. You are like an ant that works relentlessly, a butterfly
that flies happily, and a lion that knows itself.
