Psychological Well Being
In today's fast-paced
world, many people are tirelessly working to secure their future, but in the
process, they often overlook their present. While everyone has their reasons, a
common factor behind this behaviour is ignorance—specifically, ignorance of
psychological well-being.
So, what is
psychological well-being? It is a multidimensional state of positive
functioning that encompasses experiencing positive emotions, having supportive
social relationships, effectively managing one's life and environment
(mastery), enjoying autonomy, and feeling a sense of purpose and personal
growth. Once we grasp the concept of psychological well-being, we can
distinguish between developing our character to build a future and sacrificing
our health out of fear in the process.
When we labour for
the future out of fear, we are unlikely to find happiness in the present. If we
fail to enjoy the present, our mental and physical well-being becomes
uncertain.
Psychology is not
just about understanding others—such as customers or acquaintances. It is
primarily about understanding ourselves and enhancing our own lives to
appreciate the gift of life.
