Hard, but Everlasting Lessons

A Monk and a Disciple were walking on a country side, a stranger coming in the opposite side said "The road forward is damaged" and advised them to take the other road. The Monk decided to walk in the same direction he was walking, the Disciple asked " Why are you not following the strangers advise?" The Monk was silently walking forward and the Disciple followed him. After sometime they reached the damaged road.

The Disciple said "The stranger was right",

The Monk silently turned back and walked in the direction advised by the stranger.

After sometime they reached their destination and started relaxing, the Disciple asked " Master, you neither answered my question nor acknowledged my opinion about the stranger, may I know the reason?

The Monk smiled and asked "can you tell me what are the two routes to this destination?"

The Disciple said "One is the damaged road and next is the road suggested by the stranger"

The Monk said "There are two ways to learn, one through our Hardships and next through others Experience, the choice is ours”

The Monk prepared his bed to sleep. The Disciple was reflecting on what Monk said

After finishing their work, the Monk and the Disciple were returning back to their Monastery, while they were walking a stranger asked a route to the place from where they both were returning.

The Disciple said " There are two routes to the destination, one route is on to your right which is damaged and other route is good but it is a long route”

The stranger thanked and walked as per the Disciple's Instruction. The

Monk smiled and asked "What did you do now"?

The Disciple said " I communicated"

The Monk said "You shared your experience”

Remember, when we share others experience it is knowledge in action, when we share our experience, it is wisdom in action

The Disciple said "Some lessons are hard"

The Monk said "They are everlasting"

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
