Granny is back for a Strong Reason

From the writer of Granny’s message on Work from Home, Granny is back and Granny Returns

A Manager came on a video called and said “I am not happy with your past 3 months performance”

Subordinate: Sir, work from home is new to me and I am dependent on other functions to complete my task and there has been a delay from others too.

Manager: I do not think so, you require 3 months’ time get used to work from home

The granny appeared and said “Vanakkam Manager”

Manager with hesitation said, “Vanakkam”

Granny: “My dear Manager, this is not the time for Appraisal, this is the time to understand and empathize with each other”

Remember, it is not about employee settling down, it is also about their family settling down, as a Manager you can have say about employee settling down but not on their Families

Manager intervened “I am doing my job”

Granny said “Do it with humanity”

The manager was shocked listening to granny’s spontaneous response

Granny added “before conducting performance appraisal, enhance your ability to connect with other feelings, that will help you discover the Leader in you and park the boss in you”

Manager smiled and asked, “Granny where did you graduate from?”

Granny smiled and said “Life is my college and experience are my Teachers”

A young lady appeared on the other side of the screen and looked at the manager and said “ Honey does it take 3 months for you to learn how to wash the vessels properly, look at this plate”

Granny and the subordinate looked at each other and smiled

Granny went closer to the screen and said

During pandemic, people are in a panic, do not expect them to give their best, give them some rest to come back to deliver their best for the rest of their life

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
