Leadership Lessons from Covid-19

What started as a tiny virus in Wuhan is the talk of the world, earlier International news started with major happenings in the world and ends with weather report, but today it starts with Covid-19 statistics and ends with death rates.

During this period the world has witnessed salary cuts, job losses, business loss and many other tragedies, but we also witness good Samaritans who work tirelessly to save the mankind at one end & new business evolving to help the people in different areas of life.

We would have read the stories of Doctors, Paramedics, sanitary workers, Policemen, Teachers, social workers, funeral conductors, street vendors etc who gave their best to serve the mankind. What would have made them to go beyond the call of the duty? it is love towards humanity.

In workplace there are many occasions where organisation would have come across crisis and problems, in such situations there are set of people who share their expert opinion on why company got entangled into such situation, what company could have done to avoid such situation etc, but there are very few who come forward to shoulder the responsibility to restore the past glory and these people can be called as True Leaders.

These people neither wait for instructions nor designations, they get into action.

To either be mute spectator or an undesignated Leader it does not require skill, it is a matter of Attitude. By changing our Attitude, we change our Approach, by changing our approach we change ourselves and things around us.

During these challenging times start following those selfless souls to understand what makes them a Leader, instead of joining those brooders who lose their life before it ends.

Leadership is not only a skill; it is a virtue

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
