Unit-6

Good Leaders create Leaders, whereas bosses doesn’t

Let’s understand the context behind which the above difference has been derived. When I say “A good Leaders create Leaders” it means the Leader identifies and develops Leader who can take over the team or the organisation in his /her absence, whereas when I Claim the boss doesn’t do that, I mean boss doesn’t focus on developing the second line.

True Leaders understands the need to develop the second line & they also feels they are personally responsible for developing Leaders for the future, whereas bosses live with an Attitude that He/she is indispensable and works for projecting self and considers his tenure as glories days.

When Leaders thinks about creating Leaders, they also know that they should be ready to elevate to the new role and works towards developing their skills & knowledge required for the new role, whereas the bosses settle in a comfort zone, which is not only going to prevent the subordinates growth, it also stifles the organisation’s growth.

When Leaders think about developing Leaders they focus equally on both task and the people whereas the bosses, focuses on task and hence they invest very less time in people development.

Ask yourself the following questions

1.   Have you identified the Leader under you?
2.   Are you Nurturing your subordinates to become Leaders?
3.   Have you identified the next role you are going to play in your life?
4.   Are your existing leadership qualities sufficient enough to develop Leaders under you?
5.   Are you focused more on the task, people or both?
By answering the above question, you can understand whether there is a boss in you who is in you who lives in a comfort zone or whether there is Leader in you who is striving for leaving a legacy of creating Leaders to your organisation

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
