Unit-8

A Boss makes the task in the hand as a priority whereas Leader makes development as a priority
Let’s understand the context behind which the above difference has been derived. When I say “Bosses makes the task in the hand as priority”, I mean they focus more on day to day task & less on the development activities, whereas when I say Leaders makes development as a priority, the give importance for their
subordinates’ skill & knowledge development.

Bosses uses subordinates for completing the work & delegate the trivial activities Whereas Leaders develops subordinates to complete the task & delegate activities that will develop their skills and knowledge.

When bosses sit on a one to one, the discussion will be about planned activities vs completed activities. Whereas when Leader sit on a one to one, the discussion will be about task as well as developmental plans.

For bosses the priority, is to showcase the completion of task whereas for Leaders the priority is both task and people development.

People who work under bosses will remain where they are with few functional skills, whereas people under Leaders will be exhibit Leadership in their given  positions and will be ready to take over the team /organisation in the future.
If task is the priority companies will be meeting the demands of the market, if development is the priority the companies will be creating the demands.

Ask yourself the following questions
1.   Do you assign the work & keep following up for the results?
2.   Do you delegate to develop  people?
3.   Do you use one to one as a review tool?
4.   Do you use one to one as a developmental tool?
5.   Are you driven towards meeting the management’s requirements?
6.   Are you driven towards developing the people in line with Management requirements that was debated/discussed and agreed
By answering the above question, you can understand whether there is a boss in you whose priority is to complete the task or there is Leader in you whose priority is to develop the people.
It doesn’t make sense to hire Smart people and tell them what to do. We hire smart people who can tell us what to do

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
