Weed out the Boss
sowing the seeds of Leadership

The Context

Leadership has been the major discussion in many forums, right from building a nation till building an organisation. The success & failure are attributed to the Leadership.

During my journey in people development I have come across people who have seamlessly developed an organisation, but I have come across situation where people had a tough times in coping up with their immediate superiors, there could have been many reasons for the tough times, but one important factor I noticed was -Leadership.
Some of the managers were focused on the task in the hand to prove their loyalty towards their Management, but others were balancing between the people & the task.

The age-old thought on Boss Vs. Leadership has always been 5 marks question in management exams as well as favourite slide for trainers to start a session on Leadership.

Before we get into the topic, let’s get the meaning of these two words the boss and the Leader.
Let’s have these meaning in the mind while we explore the difference between the boss and the Leader to weed the boss and sow the seeds of Leadership
Boss: boss is a person in control or who has authority over employees. In this book the word boss refers to person who is more Autocratic in nature

Leader: is a person who leads the people towards a mutually agreed vision and helps the people to discover their potential & develop the Leadership qualities in them

The Modes of Persuasion The modes of persuasion, often referred to as ethical strategies or rhetorical appeals, are devices in rhetoric that classify the speaker's appeal to the audience. They are: ethos, pathos, logos, and the less-used Kairos & telos The above model has been used by Advertisement agencies to grab the attention of the viewers and finally bring them to the purchase desk or use the cart in shopping sites. If we carefully examine the model, it has a sound application in running an effective training program too.
