The Inner Gardener
An old
monk was engaged in gardening. He was closely examining the plants and began
cutting the weeds growing next to them. A young man who witnessed this asked
the old monk, "Why did you cut those plants?"
The old
monk replied, "They are not plants. They are weeds that slowly grow and
destroy the plants."
The
young man nodded his head in agreement. The monk said, "My dear young man,
our life is like this plant, and we should know how to nurture it. While we
lead our lives, we will also develop hate, frustration, ego, and many other
negative traits. Like cutting these weeds, we too should cut these negatives to
ensure we remain fresh like this plant."
"While
you are nurturing yourself, identify the weeds in you and get rid of them, so
that you can nurture yourself faster and be more effective in what you
do."
