Einstellung
Effect
When we approach a problem using a
mindset that worked for us in the past, even if a more efficient solution is
available, we may fall victim to what is known as the Einstellung Effect.
"Einstellung" is a German
word that translates to "attitude" or "setting. " It
reflects the idea that existing attitudes can impede our search for innovative
or alternative solutions to a problem. This tendency can limit our creativity
and problem-solving skills, as we may fail to consider different perspectives
or options.
To overcome this effect, we should recognise
that as we gain experience, our competencies grow. There will always be people
who have better solutions than ours, and technology continues to advance.
Acknowledging this can help us think creatively and approach problems from new
angles.
While past solutions may have been
relevant then, they may no longer be applicable today. By adopting a continuous
improvement mindset, we nurture our creativity and open ourselves to new
possibilities in life.
