Overcoming Extrinsic Incentive Bias
Sometimes, we question why we perceive others
as motivated by money while we consider ourselves driven by the desire for
experience. This mindset is known as extrinsic incentive bias. We tend to
believe that other people are motivated by money, power, and status, whereas we
see ourselves as motivated by learning and gaining experiences.
This perspective can lead us to view others solely
focused on financial gain, causing us to be cautious or maintain a distance
from them. Such bias can result in misjudgments about people's character and damage
relationships. To overcome this bias, we should accept people for who they are.
