Acceptance
When we think of acceptance, we often
associate it with how others perceive us. We strive to gain their approval,
whether in our personal or professional lives. However, if we closely examine
our behaviour in pursuit of this acceptance, we may realise that we sometimes
become overly accommodating or even submissive.
Let’s turn the focus inward and ask
ourselves some questions: Do we accept ourselves for who we are? Do we embrace
our weaknesses? Do we recognise that we are not solely here to seek the
approval of others?
As we contemplate these questions, we
begin to understand ourselves better. We realise that not all of our weaknesses
can be overcome and that we should not feel compelled to please everyone at the
expense of our own well-being.
It’s important to acknowledge that we
are individuals with our own limitations, and these limitations should not
define us. We can choose to either accept them or work towards overcoming them.
Although we are social beings who need connections with others, we should avoid
the damaging practice of prioritising the happiness of others while neglecting
our own needs.
Let us strive to accept ourselves as we
are and extend that acceptance to others, rather than stressing ourselves to
achieve perfection both within and in our relationships with others.
