Deadline
The word "deadline" might
sound ruthless, but let us not forget that deadlines have brought order to the
world by ensuring that products, services, and infrastructure are developed on
time. Can we imagine a world without deadlines, especially when it came to
developing a vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic? Next time someone asks for a
deadline, try not to get irritated; remember that you have the power to define
the deadline, estimate the work involved, and communicate your timeline. If a
deadline is set by someone else, engage in a dialogue to understand how you can
meet it and negotiate for more time if necessary.
When you need to complete an official
or personal task, set a deadline and start working towards it. A simple analogy
is that without knowing the end time and destination, no runner would want to
participate in a marathon. Deadlines serve as motivation to act swiftly and
consistently.
Are you due to complete a report? Are
you overdue for cleaning your cupboard?
Keep asking yourself what tasks need to
be completed and set deadlines for them.
Deadlines
are a lifeline in managing your time effectively.
