What, Why and How of Handling Pressure
When you find
yourself under pressure, please take a moment to pause and reflect on what is
happening and why it is happening to you. If you can clearly define the
"what" and "why," you will be better equipped to determine
the "how" of managing the pressure. Often, when we fail to clarify
the "what" and "why," we react impulsively and become
overwhelmed by stress. In such situations, we might argue, overexert ourselves,
withdraw, or ruminate, but none of these responses will alleviate the pressure;
instead, they often exacerbate it.
To validate this
insight, be honest with yourself: think about a time when you felt pressured.
Did you take the time to define the "what," "why," and
"how" of your situation, or did you give in to the pressure and
succumb to stress?
If you're currently
experiencing pressure, try applying this method: take a moment to write down
the "what," "why," and "how" regarding your
situation.
