Is the corporate world a Jungle?
The phrase
"survival of the fittest" is often used in the corporate world.
However, it is originally a concept from the animal kingdom, referring to the
idea that the animals that survive hunts are the fittest. Similarly, when we
use this phrase in a corporate context, are we suggesting that workplaces
resemble jungles and that employees become like animals?
It's important to
reconsider the implications of such statements. The workplace should be
competitive but not predatory. It should focus on developing people rather than
branding or labelling them. An effective workplace should be engaging, not
pressuring; it should accommodate mistakes rather than be intolerant.
Additionally, it should assess employees, address skill gaps, and find the
right person for the right job.
There are no perfect
organizations or perfect employees. We are all learners who deserve a fair
chance to fail and grow. Constantly chasing deadlines and targets can create a
toxic environment, leading to cold wars, decreased teamwork, and increased
selfishness.
If work is considered worship, the workplace should
be a haven, not a jungle filled with danger and fear.
