Patience Matters
The modern world has
often been represented by towering buildings, wide roads, electronic gadgets,
and an educated populace that leads a sophisticated lifestyle. However, today’s
modernity encompasses more than just these symbols; it is also characterized by
speed—high-speed trains, express deliveries, fast highways, high-speed
internet, fast food, and short video reels, among others.
But is modernization
adversely impacting our lives? Yes, it can be. For example, when we are stuck
in heavy traffic, we become restless. If our groceries are delayed by a few
minutes, we feel irritable. When the internet is slow, we become intolerant, and
if our fast-food order is delayed, we may even become furious. All of these
reactions highlight a significant quality that is deteriorating: our patience.
While there is
nothing wrong with embracing the speed of the modern world, it should not come
at the cost of losing our patience. Success often requires patience; achievers
have the endurance to complete the race, discoverers take the time to dig deep,
and masterpieces—like Ravi Varma's paintings or the tallest statue of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel—are created through patience. Most importantly, we can look
to our mothers, who exhibited incredible patience carrying us for nearly ten
months despite enduring pain.
Speed matters, but patience is what soothes, shapes, and builds us step by step. It helps us evolve into strong and determined individuals.
