Many of us ask others
to understand us, but we should strive to understand others before expecting
them to understand us. The process of understanding involves seeking,
conversing, and listening. When we seek understanding, others feel encouraged
to share; through conversation, they begin to seek understanding in return; and
when we listen, they are more likely to listen to us as well. Once we
demonstrate these qualities of understanding toward others, they will also
learn how to understand us.
Please list the
people you wish would understand you better, and take the initiative to
understand them first. Before we ask for understanding, let us give it. Giving
is a testament to our generosity and willingness to connect with others. Seize
opportunities to provide, so that we can cultivate relationships with more
people who are willing to reciprocate.
