The Pain of Attachment
Anything we do
excessively—love, trust, hope, etc.—can lead to great hurt. Life is about
finding balance and learning to let go, knowing that nothing is permanent in
this temporary world. We must be prepared to face loss. The pain of attachment
increases when we become overly attached to something. However, when we remain
less attached, the pain of losing it is diminished.
Take a moment to
reflect on what you hold dearly and fear losing. Consider whom you love the
most, why you trust certain people, and what you hope for. Think about the
consequences of your attachments and prepare yourself for how you will cope if
you lose those individuals.
Preparing for the worst is part of facing reality.
