Change Peacefully, not with Pain
Whether we like it or not, change is constant. Some
changes may be favourable to us, others may not, and some will certainly be
challenging. However, once we accept change, it often proves rewarding. Instead
of resisting the changes around us, we should evaluate their pros and cons and
learn to adapt when necessary. The world is full of examples of organizations
that resisted change and are nowhere to be found today, while those that
learned how to navigate transformation continue to hold leadership positions in
their respective industries. Once the most preferred business phone, BlackBerry
has now become a dinosaur, whereas brands like Samsung not only survive but
thrive, due to their willingness to accept change and ability to innovate.
Whether we are individuals or organizations, we need
to remain vigilant about what is happening around us and assess how these
changes may positively or adversely affect us. Investing time in such
preparedness is far more worthwhile than wasting energy resisting change or
arguing that it will not impact us.
Ask yourself:
What is your attitude toward change, and how will this attitude either help you
or hold you back? When we closely examine our attitude toward change, we become
aware of whether we truly possess the willingness and ability to change. We
should not feel that we have no choice but to change. Instead, we should feel,
"I want to embrace change; the choice is mine, and it will definitely add
value to my own life and the lives of those around me."
