Standards Vs Values -Why Both Matter-Part 3- Quadrant

Standards Vs Values -Why Both Matter-Part 3- Quadrant

Let us understand the quadrant below in detail to realise the importance of setting high standards and high values in business

A Deeper Look at the Quadrants

🌑 Transactions (Low Standards / Low Values)

This is the "Danger Zone." Relationships here are purely mercenary. Because there is no pursuit of excellence and no shared moral compass, these businesses usually fail as soon as a slightly better option comes along.

ðŸŸ  Strugglers (Low Standards / High Values)

These are the "Nice Guys who finish last." The heart is there, and the culture is friendly, but they lack the discipline or skills to meet market demands. They often need better processes and "tough love" coaching.

ðŸ”´ Business on Paper (High Standards / Low Values)

On paper, they look amazing. But behind the scenes, the "win at all costs" mentality creates burnout and high turnover. This model is rarely sustainable because it relies on grinding people down.

Stars in Business (High Standards / High Values)

The "North Star." These organisations don't compromise on their soul to get results. They prove that you can be both highly profitable and highly principled. This is where brand loyalty and innovation live.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
