Interaction with Failures

Part-6

Mr. Cheated: Who cheated you?

John: It was one of my employees

Mr. Cheated: how did he cheat you?

John: he started sharing our business deals with our competitors

Mr. Cheated: Do you discuss the deals with that employee?

John: I need to, he was the person who was handling such deals but he hinted the competitors which resulted in losing orders

Mr. Cheated: how well do you know this employee
John: He applied for the job, when we advertised for the post

Mr. Cheated: Did you do the verification?

John:  Not a very thorough verification

Mr. Cheated: When your business has sensitive deals are you not supposed to be extra cautious?

John: You are right, but I trusted him

Mr. Cheated: Trust is built over a period of time, you cannot trust a person without understanding and relating with a person

John: Situations govern our actions

Mr. Cheated: No Mr. John, you should take control of the situation

John: but the business demands, certain quick decisions

Mr. Cheated: When the outcome might be a disaster it is better to take time in deciding

John: You are right, I normally decide and regret

Mr. Cheated: Don’t you involve your business associate in your decisions

John: He doesn’t interfere in certain affairs and similarly I don’t

Mr. Cheated: Don’t you have senior team, who can be consulted?

John: I didn’t do that

Mr. Cheated: There ends the story, allow someone to play a devil’s advocate

John: Now I can understand where I went wrong

Mr. Cheated:  Can you share your insights from our interaction?

John:

·         Take control of the situation

·         Invest time in understanding the background of a person

·         Understand, relate and Trust

·         Consult others before taking crucial decisions

Mr. Cheated: John, now you know what is the next step in this interaction

John closes his eyes for few minutes and internalises his insights

Mr. Cheated:  That’s good, John

John: I expected, Mr. Poor decision to be in front of me, because in my previous interaction, after opening my eyes I saw you but expected Mr. Misled

Mr. Cheated: Expect the unexpected, that prepares you face the world better

John smiles and Mr. Cheated disappears
