K. Kamaraj a True Servant Leader-Part-5

Self-Awareness

Self-Awareness-Self-awareness is the ability to look at yourself, think deeply about your emotions and behaviour, and consider how they affect the people around you and align with your values.

You can become more self-aware by knowing your strengths & weaknesses and asking for others feedback on them. Also, learn to manage your emotions, so that you consider how your actions and behaviour might affect others.

Kamaraj was aware about himself and his needs above all he was aware about what people need. There are many instances where Kamaraj’s awareness about national politics & world politics was demonstrated by him in critical situations.

During Nehru’s death Kamaraj played a pivotal role in bringing Lal Bahadur Shastri as the Prime minister that shows his intelligence in terms of identifying leaders which is one the most important quality of a leader.

Sudden death Lal Bahadur Shastri has put Kamaraj in a fix and he once again played a vital role in identifying the prime minster candidate, this time things were not easy for him. Kamaraj Proposed Ms. Indra Gandhi, which was not favoured by Morarji Desai and after long debate they conducted an election within the party & finally Indra Gandhi was elected as the PM candidate.

During this crisis Atluya Ghosh told Kamaraj that he himself can become the prime minister which was also backed by other members and few chief ministers but Kamaraj refused by stating that he was not well versed in English and Hindi to manage the country, that is the sign of self-awareness.

As a Leader he was aware about his own strengths and weaknesses. He was also aware about party’s strengths and weaknesses above all he was aware about the pulse of the nation, which truly made him the king maker.

A king maker should understand self and others which Kamaraj demonstrated in his role and has lived the fourth characteristics of a Servant Leader-
 Self-Awareness

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
