          K.Kamaraj a True Servant Leader-Part-11

Building Community-Tamilnadu Growth Story

Building Community- A Leader’s vision & actions results in building a community. Kamaraj is an Iconic example of building a community of educated masses, strong officers who can function to their fullest potential and above all a state which has been called as the Reservoir of Knowledge* by Narayana Murthy- Founder of Infosys. Here is a story of how he was bent upon building a community:

Presiding the First Amendment

The “Communal G.O” which was in force for long, with which reservations for backward caste was safe guarded, was annulled by verdicts from Madras high court and the Supreme court of India. Kamaraj, understanding the public sentiments against this verdict and insisted Prime Minister Nehru for the first amendment to the constitution.

Within few months after the constitution was in force in 1951, he upheld the rights for backward caste and their reservations regarding their education and job opportunities. This is the reason he was hailed by Tamil Nadu for “Presiding the first amendment”

From the above incidents it is clear that Kamaraj has lived the tenth characteristics of a Servant Leader- Building Community
