K. Kamaraj a True Servant Leader-Part-4

          K. Kamaraj a True Servant Leader-Part-4

Healing-Speech in 1962 and Selection of students for Medicine
Healing: This characteristic relates to the emotional health and "wholeness" of people, and involves supporting them both physically and mentally.
Here are glimpses of speech given by Kamaraj in Chennai after few years of Indochina war in 1962
The speech was given in Triplicane on 2.10.1965. Kamaraj quoted what Mahatma Gandhi quoted “A country should be self-sufficient and we should fulfill our own needs without depending on other nations” adding to the quote Kamaraj stated the following which not only healed the people in 1965 but it makes sense in the present context too:
  •     We should produce our own food grains
  • Unity is strength
  • We should be truly a democratic nation
  • We should reduce our dependence on other nations
A file was placed in front of Kamaraj for selecting 10 students for Medicine seats based on Government quota, Kamaraj quickly went through the file and he selected 10 students.
The respective IAS officer stated, generally it takes three days to go through the file, but how did you finalise the candidates?
Kamaraj replied I saw the parents who had kept their thumb impression instead of signature and hence I decided a student should be selected from a family where his parents are not literates and that’s how we can improve the society.
His words and deeds are true healers for the poor and needy, with the above speech and his action he has truly lived the third characteristics of a Servant Leader- Healing

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
