Living Your Goals
Some people achieve
success year after year in their chosen careers. When we closely examine these
individuals, we find that they focus on a single goal, making it the central theme of their lives. They ensure that everything they do aligns with this goal,
which means their days are governed by their objectives rather than by external
forces.
Although they may
miss deadlines, make mistakes, or experience failures, they continually pull
themselves back toward their goal. These individuals sleep on their goals,
think about them, talk about them, and read material relevant to achieving
them. It may seem like they are overdoing it, but if Thomas Edison hadn't
persevered, we would have taken much longer to discover electric light. If the
Wright brothers hadn't dedicated themselves to flight, humanity would have
taken years longer to take to the skies. Many more examples can be added to
this list.
Here’s an exercise
you can try for the next five days: Write down a goal you want to achieve. It
could be reading a book. Make that goal your theme for the week. Start reading one
page daily, talk about it, listen to podcasts or related discussions about the
book or the subject related to the book, think about it regularly, and keep the
book beside your pillow while you sleep. Let that book be the first object you
touch in the morning and the last at night.
After five days,
evaluate your progress. You will likely have read several pages of the book,
demonstrating the power of living each day according to your goals.
