Mind is a garden, and we are the gardeners of our Minds.

Mind is a garden, and we are the gardeners of our Minds.

A young boy observed a gardener throughout the day and decided to meet him to clarify his doubts.

The young boy said, "Uncle, I have been watching you since this morning. You are busy maintaining the garden by ploughing, watering, and removing unwanted plants. Regular watering and maintenance are important for ensuring beautiful flowers bloom. However, I wonder what you are removing around the plants." The gardener replied, "Those are weeds."

The boy asked, "Why should you remove the weeds? Aren't they useful?" The gardener explained, "They will destroy the garden." The boy nodded and said, "Okay."

The gardener said, "My dear boy, a garden and a mind have something in common. We are the gardeners of our minds. We should nurture our minds just like we water a garden. We need to self-examine how we cultivate our thoughts and remove negativity, negative people, and negative habits to ensure our minds remain fertile for colorful thoughts to bloom in our lives."

The young boy replied, "Thank you, Uncle. Every night before I sleep, I will remove unwanted thoughts and fears so that my mind stays clear and fresh for new thoughts to grow the next day.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
