Road and Life

Road and Life

There is a similarity between roads and life. Some roads are longer, while others are shorter. Some are congested, whereas some are free to drive on. Some roads have traffic signals, and some have fewer. Some roads have disciplined drivers, while others have reckless ones. Similarly, some roads have pedestrians who wait for the signal to cross, while others violate the rules. Some roads are bumpy, and others are smooth. Ultimately, every road leads to a different destination.

Now, let’s apply this metaphor to our lives. Some lives are short, and some are long. None of us knows how long our journey will be, but we must find our lane and keep moving forward. Not all of us have a smooth life; worries, fear, regret, and guilt weigh down some of us. However, we need to smooth our path with positive thoughts. Sometimes, we need to slow down, pause, and then proceed. We cannot keep burning the midnight oil every day.

There will be people who are hard on us, but we should not allow their harshness to harden our hearts. Some try to rush us or pull us toward unethical choices, but we must decide how our journey should progress.

Define your destination, carve your path, choose your speed, and keep moving in life. While there can be many roads for travelers, we have one life and one ultimate destination. Let us travel peacefully.

Listen, Understand and Respond

Listen, Understand and Respond Most of the time, people listen to respond rather than to understand. By the time the other person finishes speaking, the listener is often already formulating a response. Let’s explore what happens in such situations. While listening, we may be trying to engage our logical brain to recall our memories and creativity for a response, or we may be accessing our emotional brain to defend ourselves against what is being said. For example, if one person talks about ways another could improve, the listener might offer excuses such as a lack of time, resources, or support. Alternatively, they may bring up personal emotions, like health or family issues. These reactions often occur while the other person is still speaking, leading to a decreased understanding and an increased eagerness to defend one’s position. During this type of conversation, the listener may appear restless, exhibiting a lack of eye contact or head nodding. In such interactions, th...
