Jingoism Vs Patriotism
If nations boast
about their GDP and defense strength without focusing on the happiness and
health of their citizens, as well as ensuring a decent per capita income, they
are not citizen-centric. Instead, they are catering to a few elites and trying
to assert their supremacy over weaker nations while engaging in arms
transactions. If citizens take pride in such GDP figures and defense
capabilities, they may be ignorant of the actual situation or misled by leaders
who keep them blind, convincing them that jingoism is equivalent to patriotism.
If we fail to understand the difference, we risk remaining unaware of our subjugation,
living as slaves without recognising our condition.
A true patriot will critically
evaluate what is presented to them and remain unbiased, questioning the status
quo and seeking the truth. In contrast, others will celebrate their slavery as
being patriotic and brand the dissents as anti-national.
