Lessons from a Wind Chime
I was taking my regular morning walk along the side of a hotel where I had checked in. As I walked, I heard a pleasant sound and decided to pay attention to it. Following the sound, I discovered a wind chime that was hung near the hotel's entrance. I changed my walking path and walked toward the sound, which stretched out over a long distance. I noticed that sometimes the sound was softer and that the chime didn't move much, resulting in no sound at all. Suddenly, a strong morning breeze picked up, and the wind chime began to play like an instrument conducted by a symphonic orchestra, reminiscent of music from Western films composed by Ennio Morricone.
I dwelled on the
sound, the breeze, and the wind chime for a while, and I came back to reflect
on a life lesson inspired by the wind chime. The lesson goes like this: the
wind chime remained calm and quiet when there was little wind, but when the
breeze intensified, it truly lived up to its name.
Some people are like
wind chimes; they may appear dormant in environments where there is little to
motivate them. However, if the same wind chime were placed in a windy spot, we
would hear beautiful melodies. Similarly, people perform best when they are in
the right environment for their strengths to be utilized.
When individuals
struggle to perform, it’s important not to label them as non-performers.
Instead, consider whether they are in the right place to thrive. Let the winds
of motivation, appreciation, and forgiveness blow in people's lives, enabling
them to produce better results, much like the wind chime that creates
harmonious tunes when placed where it can thrive.
